Dentist office visits are among the most common fears around. At Pure Dental Spa, we take full advantage of aromatherapy to create a relaxing environment for our patients to relieve those fears and create a calm experience. But you don’t have to wait until your next reservation to get the benefits of aromatherapy. Using essential oils, you can get the scents of the spa in your own home. Below are six essential oils to use in your home and the response they’ll produce.

Lavender

Lavender oil is best known for its relaxing properties. The aroma of lavender oil helps soothe your mind and your body and can be used to relieve stress. This makes it a staple essential oil for aromatherapy. Putting a drop in your diffuser, or rubbing a little on your skin will help treat your anxiety.

Rosemary

Another stress-relieving scent, rosemary oil is great for helping get rid of headaches. Rosemary oil is often used in combination with other oils to create a soothing atmosphere. Some say that rosemary oil can even help improve your memory and even increase hair growth when put in shampoo!

Sandalwood

In combination with carrier oils, sandalwood is used in the topical treatment of certain skin conditions like rashes, eczema, psoriasis, and dandruff. Aside from this, sandalwood oil is renowned as one of the most calming aromatherapy options available. It is used frequently for tantric yoga and is thought to help with depression, fear, and chronic illness.

Ylang-Ylang

From antidepressant to aphrodisiac, ylang-ylang oil is used in just about every facet of aromatherapy. Just recently popular, the oil from the ylang-ylang tree’s flowers is light, fragrant, and delicate. It is a pleasing scent sure to calm your nerves.

Peppermint

Careful not to overdo it with peppermint oil, as it is among the stronger fragrances available. Just a drop is all you’ll need to feel the effects. Peppermint oil can provide you with energy and a heightened sense of alertness. If you need to be awoken or stimulated, peppermint is a good choice.

Lemon

Arguably one of the most popular essential oils on the market, lemon oil has a wide range of applications from improving your mood to doing your laundry. Research even suggests that lemon oil can decrease cholesterol and help prevent heart disease. Though of as a detoxifying agent, lemon oil helps rejuvenate your cells and purify the room.
