WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU GET BRACES

Getting braces is a monumental step in achieving the smile you’ve always wanted. Braces can help straighten your teeth and fix your bite. With dental advancements, the appearance of braces has also become more stylish and discreet. While traditional metal braces in the Chicago Loop and Bloomingdale are still a popular choice, you can also opt for braces that are clear or tooth-colored.
Here’s what you can expect on the day you get your braces on.

The Process

First, your teeth will be thoroughly cleaned and dried to prepare them for the brackets. Next, bonding glue is applied in order for the brackets to be placed in the center of each tooth. Then, the archwire is placed inside of the brackets to connect your teeth. Small elastic bands will then be placed over each bracket to secure the wire in place. You can expect the entire process to take anywhere from 1-2 hours, depending on the type of braces you are getting.

Will it Hurt?

No! The process of getting braces in our Chicago Loop or Bloomingdale office will not hurt, but you can expect your mouth to be sore for about a week after the appointment. For the first couple of days following your appointment, eat foods that are soft and take ibuprofen as necessary. It typically takes most patients about one month to fully adjust to wearing braces.
